Re: [St] [ST]alternator troubles: follow up

Hi John

Rewinding is not an issue. It's just patience. I already have experience
w/ transformer rewinding. I will keep the list posted as I will do it this we.

About the RR, it appear to be OK. I fact I think that one of the three phase had a defect
and probably some loops were shorten since the beginning. The RR wouldn't be reparable.
I will do an on the bench test before remounting the wool stuff.

I understand your point but I can't change the RR if working OK even if I suspect
it was stressed. I can't imagine that the rating of the diodes was lower than the
fuse max current which by the way didn't blow up.

Fred

Fred, any dc motor shop can probably rewind your stator in a pinch.
On the regulator issue I would not touch it, just replace it.
And here is why, all the diodes have been stressed and abused at this point. Just because only one has failed does not mean that the others are not going to cascade fail in another week or so.
Just replace the R&R and either get a new stator or get it rewound by someone that knows DC motors.
