One more important point worth mentioning about car trailers is keeping the 
wheel bearings new and well greased.

I've lost count of the amount of trailers and caravans etc, I've seen sitting 
by the side of the road missing a wheel and bits of bearings welded to the 
axle as they werent checked before the annual holiday. Boat trailers also tend 
to suffer heavily in this regard as well. Its amazing the amount of enthusiasts 
that dont think what all that salt water may be doing to all the those metal 
bits.
