Re: [St] Widder heated gear

yeah I saw that they're closing.
I just ordered a new controller last week.
It came in already. So they're still shipping.

26 F here this morning. No I didn't ride.

Now that the thermometer is getting shorter, I am in the market for some
heated riding gear. I'm tired of hanging the bike up for the winter.

There's a fellow about 50 miles from me who is selling his Widder gear (for
what I feel is a pretty good price) and I was wondering if anyone has had
any experience with it. From what I've read so far it seems to be of pretty
good quality, but I was hoping to get some personal opinions.

Thanks!

David,

I have a Widder heated vest with the add on arm
warmers. I do not have gloves or pant to go with it.
I use heated grips and have added the Tiger "brush
guards" to help with wind protection. This works well
with my preference for thin gloves.

The heated vest works quite nicely, many thanks to my
wife for the acquisition. I also use the rheostat
control to provide variable heat which is nice. With
the vest under my jacket, riding pants (unheated) and
boots, I am quite comfortable with the temperature.

Wet weather is a different matter. :-)

David,

I have two Widder vests and have had excellent service from them for over 10
years. That said it is my understanding they are closing the business this year
and you may not be able to get repairs made. I have had one vested repaired,
free of charge, after about 7 years service a wire broke at the plug on the
interior of the vest. Since then I have not had a problem with the vest. In
general the Widder products are simple in design and function acceptably. I
ride in temperatures down to 27 F with little discomfort. Wearing an
aerostwitch suit polar fleece and electric vest.

I bought some Gerbings gloves and jacket over 5 years ago and the first time
I used them it was a eureka/doh moment. Simply could not live without them
now.

About 6 months ago the left-hand glove failed (common thing so I hear till
they re-designed that glove). Contacted Gerbings, they said to send them
both in. They sent me a brand-new pair. Can't get better service than
that.
