Re: CO ramblings.....

Rick,

Let me just come right out and say it...

Triumph does not have the balls to force all their dealers to get the CO
analyzer.....

There - I've said it

That being said, Triumph does recommend to each and every dealer that they
purchase a CO analyzer. The problem is that most dealerships cannot see the
value of buying a high dollar piece of service equipment for a few whiny
individuals that want to fit race cans etc. They find it much better to
play with the settings until they get things appearing to be right. While
this method will never get you optimal performance, most people will never
feel the difference so why bother ?

My dealer - <ass kiss mode on> who I love greatly and constantly recommend
to others <a.k.m off> - did not have one last year when I had my problems
with the 509. They invested over 40 man hours of labor all told before
"testing" a gas analyzer from snap-on using my bike. Then it was a matter
of a few minutes of tweaking and I was good to go. No more problems.....

So, did my dealer buy an analyzer ? Nope .........

Triumph at a minimum should be including the analyzer as part of the new
dealer kits (easier to overcome objections as its part of a bigger
investment).

But it is really hard for a dealer to justify the outlay especially when
the are not being pressured from Triumph (or the customers) to purchase
one. I'm not sure if Triumph plans on changing their policy on this, so in
the meantime . . . . . ??? - I'm not sure .... other than having no
money, that is the biggest objection on my list of reasons to not get the
pipe.

I have someone local to me that has an analyzer, but (as you pointed out)
that does little good as he doesn't have access to the programming. So it
would be a test - drive to the dealer (100 miles round trip) - drive back
and test again etc.

As for my 509, my system was off, but I was also running a West Coast pipe,
so no telling what the level of the problem would have been like if I had
only had the stock pipe. I had the numbers (as far as percentages) written
down at one point, but I'm not sure if I still have them or not. If I find
them, I will post the info.
