Re: FW: The Last Triumph?

I still think its a great bike, and I am sure most of the 'bugs' will be ironed out in the 2000 model, but those enthusiastic enough to buy first year models should not 'pay' twice - the higher, non-discount price and in faults which will limit the life of their machine. We paid alot of money for these machines (and the warranty that it supposedly comes with!), and it is worth every penny. Triumph have made plenty of money on the ST and will continue to do so - why quibble about a few hundred pounds on something which cannot be the fault of the owner?

Would it not be better for Triumph to admit that the valve gear has a 'wear in' period and that it should be checked at 10,000km, then every 20,000km after that? How can their research show conclusively that this is not a manufacturing fault when it takes 10,000km of normal riding to reveal the problem?

Maybe (probably) it is too late for us to get anything done for the 1999 owners, but a it would be great if all ST List owners sent in the results to Eric when the valves are checked, so that we can send conclusive proof (one way or the other) to Triumph.

thanks
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, sorry to hear about the poor quality response from Triumph!! I
don't blame you for being pissed off, just reading about it makes me feel
kinda the same. But as a potential ST owner lurking on the list to hear the
benefits and probs of owning one, I want to say *thank you* for your post on
this. I need to hear the good, bad and ugly b4 investing in a bike. Most of
what I've read/heard so far has been glowing and positive. Pity it isn't all
that way...

much appreciated,
rgds, Grunter.
