Subject: Seat lock with panniers
Well, as Tim just mentioned, removing the seat with panniers
on is no fun
at all.
On Sunday while riding with some friends it finally came to
a head. I
attempted to open my seat to get my bike lock out, but as I
still had my
gloves on there was no chance. So pull of the gloves, bend
over fumble a
bit and drop the keys twice, but still not be able to get
the key in the
lock. At this point I get the "Are you coming or are you
going to sit in
the sun while we eat?" from the Buell riders (nothing worse
than an insult
from a Buell rider...)
So after unlocking and sliding the pannier I was able to get
my lock ......
Sunday afternoon I decided that I was done. I have a really
nice helmet
lock made by Mr King but can't use it because it is such a
PITA to get the
seat off.
So I moved the seat lock.....
Because of having to remove a couple of the pannier support
brackets
temporarily the installation will probably take 1 to 2 hours
(although with
instructions it may be quicker) and will require some
drilling. What you
are left with is a usable lock (even with gloves on) that
you could find
even in the dark (and in a spot that I feel doesn't detract
from the looks
of the bike).
Anyone interested?
- Eric
