ST crashes

I too had been struck by the number of crashes, or, more precisely, by
the number of 0-5 mph drops.

Taking Eric's and Martin's cases together I make that 8 out of 20.

So, just to make the statistics more meaningful, I'd better add mine,
although it happened a couple of months back. I didn't post it because
I reckoned it wasn't too interesting, just very annoying...

Like others before me, I messed it up when putting her on the centre
stand to check the oil. Unlike others, I did have boots on. Where I
went wrong was to leave the (full) top box and tank bags on the machine
whilst doing so. This must have raised the c of g enough to make all
the difference... Fortunately (a) I noticed it early enough so could
let her down away from me relatively gently (that crunch still hurt
though), and (b) the mirror and bar end landed in the grass.

There was no-one else around, though I was convinced I heard some
snickering from the bus stop on the other side of the hedge...

I think that makes 9 out of 21, and I am only too aware that I am
fortunate to belong to the 9 and not the other 12.

I learned two things from this:
- - use the centre stand only when you have to, and take any luggage off
first
- - even a ten-stoner like me can pick her up again, just as long as he is
really pissed off
