Another Personal Introduction

I should introduce myself as well. First some background...

My name is Gord, I live in Victoria, BC, Canada. I'm 29 year old. I've been
riding street bikes for about 5 years. As a teenager, I rode dirt bikes, but
outgrew the bike and started driving cars, so I had nearly a decade of
non-riding. About six or seven years ago, a friend of mine bought an '85
RZ350R. Well, I rode that thing around a few times, and thought hey, I
forgot how much fun these things are. That, and the fact that my
father-in-law was an avid rider (BMW K100RS), got me re-hooked.

So I bought a 77 Suzuki GS550 as a learner bike, then another one a year
later. Both deals came with lots of spares and aftermarket bits, so when I
sold them, the ridable bike (GS550#1 became a donor bike) had a laser
exhaust, individual filters, rejetted carbs, Metzelers, drilled brake discs,
a cafe style fairing and fairing lower/air dam below. Looked and sounded
great. Not enough power to really go anywhere though; on the highway, it had
barely enough power to pull the petals of a daisy unless you were in the
upper half of the rev range. in '97 I bought an '84 Yamaha XJ750RL (same as
the XJ750F in Europe, not available in the US). That bike has been repainted
and I put a Hindle 4-into-1 pipe on (stock exhaust rusted through) and had
it rejetted. Still not enough power for serious touring, but a very nice,
smooth, comfortable bike, with a torquey motor (56mm bore, 55mm stroke)
that's great for around town.

I've been wanting a VFR for a few years, but after riding my 750 on a trip,
decided that loading a bike up with lots of gear makes a pretty big
difference when you pull out to pass at 120kph. More is indeed better. When
I read the first review of the ST, I knew this was the bike to have.
Virtually every review since has praised the ST's smoothness, power, and
all-around versatility. I haven't actually ordered one yet, but hope to by
the summer.

To reiterate the comments of Paul Wilson, this a a great, friendly list. No
negativity, no bickering, just a bunch of friendly riders sharing thoughts
and helping each other out. Even though I haven't been on the list long, and
don't yet own an ST, the sense of friendship and comraderie is already
feeling strong. If anybody is coming to Victoria, I'd be happy to show you
around some of the great backroads here. Is anybody on the list in or near
Victoria?

Kindest regards and thanks for this great resource,

Gord.
