RE: Fair price....

Jong,
Brother you are supposed to spit that part out. :-)

		having just come away
from a dealer with a bitter taste on my tongue...

Don't feel too bad for you inflammatory nature in the
previous email. I think I am a bit worse in that respect than you are. I
too have a major problem with the dealer making a 100% profit. My dealer
since under new management has done the related and admitted it.
For those not in the know carbon fiber rear wheel hugger =
$440USD at my dealer and I hit him with why is this that much since I can
get it a Jack Lilley's for $220USD no tax and shipped in a week? His
response is that he was not going to sell the piece at what he purchased it
at. I said that is fine, I give my dealer hell for what he is doing with
his prices. I think he is new at the retail thing and it is hurting him
severely. Problem is that he has exceptional service capability which may
go away if he doesn't get some of the things he has sold in a timely
fashion. I admittedly haven't tried other shops for their service or their
accessories because these guys are soooo close. That may change however.

These guys are real movers. I have not checked their
accessories yet but I think $220USD dollars is reasonable for a carbon fiber
rear wheel huggers from Jack Lilley's. Limited quantity pieces of work tend
to make things more expensive in general.
I think it is very important to let the dealers know what
you find acceptable and often for that matter. I am also one who will tell
someone that I will buy a bike from someone else for cheaper. It is after
all their right to refuse to do business if this doesn't meet their business
model. Folks competition is the name of the game. The more competitive the
market the cheaper in price things are. It is your responsibility to decide
on what you will accept period. You have to remember it is their
responsibility to make us the best all around deal. It is their
responsibility to also verify they are making enough to make it last as
well. This kills the week and leans out the strong in the dealer universe.
It seems a bit too extreme for any business but it is the ideal of free
trade isn't it?
I don't mind feeding people but they are not going to get
fatter on every one of my dealings with them. I will pay them up to 30% or
40% on some low volume things but definitely not all of them

		END.
