desestriction (Re: first trip)

The Sprint ST is delivered restricted to 98PS in Germany, as this is a significant cut-off for insurance, and legally some german states will not give a road test for bikes over 98PS (HP).
The restriction is a simple throttle and air intake one I was informed by the mechanics. This also of course applies to the T595/955i and T509/Speed Triple.  As I have a Triumph aftermarket can fitted it is producing more than the allowed 98PS so I might as well get it opened up.

In France bikes must be restricted to 98PS with no option to derestrict as I understand it.  In Austria, Switzerland the situaiton is as in Germany where it is legal but the insurance becomes very expensive.  Since in Germany almost anything will invalidate the insurance - e.g. tyres not homologated for your model/year, exhaust, racks, wing mirrors etc. it is doubtful that most bikes around are 'legal'.

Hey Marc,
Did you get your valve clearances checked at 10,000km service?
Since they are 'derestricting' the bike, it seemed worth doing. If there are 
tight valves it should be covered by warranty I hope.
