Riding, Rain & Coolant

Richard & I just got back from a weekend of riding and motorcycle races.
We got out of town a bit late on Saturday, as we sold the Sprint Exec.
Friday night and had to go by the bank (opposite direction of our
weekend adventure). We ran into rain on both days, and it was quite
heavy on Saturday at times. The STs were really solid, but we
experienced the same thing as Rick Paukert did with the black trim on
the windscreen trying to fly away during heavy rain, which can be a bit
distracting, as I am sure you can imagine. It happened on both STs. We
made it to the races outside of College Station and enjoyed watching the
endurance race for a couple of hours. We then went into College Station
for gas and to catch the next road leading to our destination, a B&B
outside of Brenham. At the gas station, I looked at the bottom of
Rick's bike, and coolant was coming out the bottom and making quite a
pool there! All I could think about was the talk on the list by a few
who had lost radiators, and here we were 90 miles from home! So, off
with the left side fairing and luckily, the problem was a hose clamp
that had come loose and the hose had slid down. We get the hose back up
to where it belongs and tightened the clamp, and Richard took off on my
bike to get more coolant while I put the fairing back on. Then we went
to a lovely B&B called Mariposa Ranch, and rode 30 miles to Roundtop for
dinner along the La Bahia Road (FM 390) which went through some
georgeous country and had a nice amount of curves. On Sunday, it was
back to the races, after taking another run on La Bahia Road and on
around Lake Summerville. Even with the coolant problem and the rain, it
was a great weekend, and a great way to celebrate our 9th anniversary!
