Wet weather Riding

For those who are still worrying about water infiltration
in the hard bags, stop worrying. As long as you make sure
nothing pinches the rubber seals, you'll be OK.
I just came back from a 2 day trip where we must have ridden
about 400kms in the rain (+200 on wet pavement) with a bout
of 100km in torrential rain (lightning hitting left and right
of us at times, couldn't stop anywhere, we were in a provincial
park) . The first day, I had a shirt with a little water on it
but that's because it pinched the seal when I closed the bag.
On the second day (250k in the rain) everything was dry.
BTW, I also experience the flying rubber band syndrome ;)
Get some heavy showers, ride at 80-100km and Boum!! the rubber
band on the windshield goes nuts and flaps all over. I just
grabbed it and tucked it right below the edge of the screen and
it didn't move. I guess I'll have to glue it to the screen.
Has anybody fixed the problem ?
The bike felt stable in the rain, it's just that I wasn't :(
The others did not fare as well, especially the Harley rider
who didn't have a screen, his face was red from rain drops,
nope, they were rain pellets ...
Interesting tidbit:
I've ordered boot covers from my local dealer but they hadn't
arrived yet so I went on the trip without them. Instead, I've
put "beezwax" (or whatever it's called) on my leather boots:
Standard Timberland high cut boot. Works like a charm, not
a single drop of water got in. I'm just amazed at how well it
worked (and Timberland should also be commended for great
stitching: quadruple stitch). The only drawback of "beezwax"
is that the leather feels greasy after application and also
daskens the leater.
bye
