I was wondering the same thing. My gas guage had been working well. Reading
full for about 100 miles then running down to red with the light coming on
when the needle hits the red zone. Then on Sunday I went for a short trip
(15miles) to fill up for the next day and the guage went from half full to
empty with the light on. At the same time, my bike had a serious flat spot I
hadn't observed before starting at 6000RPM and extending to redline. The
power just wasn't there.

Turned the bike off at the gas station and filled up (only 3.9 gallons ),
started the bike and went home. Gas guage went to full, light went off and
power came back. Subsequently did 700 miles last two days with no problems at
all.

Guess it was just gremlins.
