One weekend and 1350 miles later....

Hi everybody...

I spent last weekend riding from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Valparaiso,
Indiana and back on mostly turnpike roads. Now have 7500 miles on the bike
and a couple of long distance touring observations...

The bike averaged between 52 and 53 miles per gallon riding at between 70
and 80 miles per hour in 90 degree temperatures. It actually got better
mileage at those speeds than between 60 and 70 mph when it gets about 46 to
48 mpg..

I found the seat started to "bite" my butt after about 500 miles which isn't
too bad, but made me think of finding an aftermarket seat. Anyone have any
ideas on this???

I found the bars to be just a little too far forward for me for comfortable
all day (about 11 hours) cruising. However this feeling went away when off
the superslab and traveling more secondary roads with curves. Any word on
the availability of aftermarket kits to bring the bars back or higher?

I found myself wishing the footpegs were just a little bit farther forward
to allow me to unkink my legs a bit. I am 5'7" and 148 pounds so am
probably on the small side compared to the average rider. Guess trying to
put "cruiser pegs" on this bike would be silly!!!;)

The engine ran great and has plenty of power for passing and the handling
makes you want to find more secondary roads to travel to explore curves.

The bike is getting a new fuel gauge and the valve clearances checked (just
as a precaution) this week. Will let the list know what the valve
clearances were like.

Ride Safely,

Charlie
