Dan,

I dont know if you have done this or not but I found that it has helped
me. Try adjusting your gear shift lever to a lower position.  I have
found that the stock position of the gear shifter being almost level
with the foot peg makes it hard to make a full stroke in the up
position. Think about it with your foot completely horizontal your range
of motion up is not very much maybe 1.5 to 2 inches with the last part
of the range being kind of weak. With this being said I have adjusted
mine so that the gear shifter almost comes in contact with the gear
linkage.  This has helped me tremendously from getting false neutrals.
