Too Damn Cold

Of course now that I have the bike it's gotten colder than a witch's
tit outside. Into the twenties tonight and nothing over 45 for a high
all week.

So I was experimenting with warmer gear today to try and get out and
get some miles in. Of course the local department stores do not have
thermal underwear in stock anymore; they have all their summer stuff
out. I could never figure that shit out. Do people really buy their
July wardrobe in March? Anyway, no option for an under layer.

But wait a minute. Here we go. Jammies. Long leg, long sleeve
cotton jammies with elastic cuffs at wrist and ankle. In colors. OK.
And I have some bulky goretexplascticnylon gloves that will go over the
thinner leather riding gloves I prefer for most weather and which give
much better hand protection since they have wrist tabs to keep them on.
Nifty. I can ride today after all. So I got out and got about twenty
miles on putting around town this afternoon.

Anyway I have 90 miles on the ST now and she is loosening up quite a
bit. The upshifts don't leave bruises anymore, and I can find neutral
most of the time from either side while dead stopped. One thing I have
found, though, is that my 'motorcycle muscles' in my hands have atrophied.
The ST has a relatively heavy clutch handle, though it is lighter than
the Norton I rode for so long, which had an aftermarket all-metal clutch
and double springs. But after riding around town for about 40 miles
yesterday, I really felt it in my left hand and wrist. I guess it will
take a while to get back in shape. I also still have a little of the
grip of death on the handlebars, which doesn't help.
