And another way :-) Possibly gleaned from rec.moto some time ago:
I have my ignition key on a loop of string which attaches to my
keyring with a larkshead knot (dead simple loopy thing ;-) When I put
the lock on the bike, I attach the key to the ring; if I find myself
putting the ignition key into the ignition with this huge bunch of
keys attached, there's probably a lock on the bike. After I remove
the disc lock (not before!) I take the ignition key off the ring.

This also keeps the top yoke scratch-free.
