U.S. License Plate Won't Fit

Am I the only one who has had this problem?  My Oregon license plate bolt
holes are completely outside the raised license plate area on the mud
gaurd. My dealer said this is because it is sized for European plates and
there is no adapter. 

Has anybody found a "clean" solution that looks OEM?
