ST Gearing - 99 v 00

Ok, I pulled my countershaft sprocket cover this weekend on my Cool Blue Y2K
ST.
The front sprocket is NOT a 17. The front sprocket is not an 18 like the
'99 model had stock. The 00 model comes stock with a 19 tooth front
sprocket. The rear has 43 teeth.
Bigger front sprocket = less chain movement as it rotates around the
sprocket, less acceleration, lower rpm at each speed...
The 19/43 combo = 0.4419 ratio. The 18/43 change would give me 0.419 ratio
(like a 99 ST), and the 17/43 would give me 0.395.
Why the change? Maybe (pure speculation here) to help differentiate the ST
from the RS; touring vs sport? Maybe so I can now get over 50 mpg on a
regular basis. Maybe so I can run at well over 100 all day long?
