RE: overheating?

I forget the physics pertaining to it too but Water is a natural by product
of the combustion process. I think it is more noticeable at startup because
of the temp of the exhaust gas at the time. After warm-up exhaust gas is
somewhere between 600-1000 degrees and so is everything else in the system
so the vapor is not nearly as noticeable but is still there.
Peace and enjoyment until it really has a problem.

Subject: overheating?

Thanks Martin and Eric -

I checked the coolant level and noticed that (after 300 miles of running
in) it had indeed dipped, about 1cm, below the minimum level which it
had been at soon after delivery. I went late today to the dealer and
mentioned the symptoms (the exhaust gases from cold are more vapour than
smoke, though I still find this somewhat strange at temperatures of
15C/60F... I suppose I'm forgetting something from physics lectures).
Anyway, he seemed to think that all was quite normal for a bike still in
the running in period, simply topping up the coolant (talk of "air
bubbles"). So, after this visit and your comments I'm feeling
considerably less "stressed" about it. But I'll keep an eye on the blue
liquid all the same.
Thanks again,

Paul

P.S. I feel particularly "vulnerable" on this issue because I've only
very recently managed to separate myself from a nightmare car
(reliability-wise); it's been rather too easy to conjure up visions of
ST engine replacement, etc! ...I love the bike.
