Taking a Dump

Does anyone have experience with putting those hard plastic skid cylinders (I forget what they are called) used on race bikes on their ST?  They could save a bit of damage when dumping the bike and sliding it down the road.  Another trick is to loosen the clutch and front brake lever assemblies so that they can rotate on the bar instead of breaking in a crash.
