Adjusting the shifter down sure helped me.  Unfortunately, my ST (2500 miles
on the clock) is still very difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd when the bike
is cold... as though the clutch plates are not fully disengaging or
something.  After the first 3 or 4 shift (or getting a few miles down the
road) the bike shifts flawlessly.
