Service info

Hello all,

I've just recently returned from a Triumphant tour of Europe (4,800
miles through 11 countries in three weeks) and had the 12,000 mile service
done at Jack Lilley in Shepperton. The service was carried out at about
14,500 miles (oops).

1 exhaust and 3 inlet shims were replaced; I'm afraid I don't know which
cylinders were affected. For what it's worth the service manager reckoned
that on these engines shims only need replacing when they were incorrectly
shimmed at the factory, and he doesn't expect to have to change any at
24,000 miles. I refrained from relating the tale of Jonathan Schulster's
T509.

One piston in the left caliper was starting to seize; they cleaned it up
and now there's much less travel in my brake lever.

I got told off for doing so many miles - they reckon that 12,000 mile
services should be every two or three years, not two or three every year :-)

        Jim
