Re: New ST - Questions

Thanks to Eric, Neil, and Dennis concerning the overheating problem I
reported on my new ST. I took the bike to my dealer today (Saturday) and
had to stop 4 times enroute to allow the bike to cool down. In each case,
the fan would run for 4-6 minutes. Upon restart the gauge would read close
to the lower point of the gauge.

Finally got to the dealer and the initial assumption was a defective gauge.
Wrong. After removing the left panel and checking the radiator level
(very, very low) additional coolant was added. Diagnosed as probable air
bubble in system which caused the radiator to dump significant portion of
coolant at one point.

While at the dealer the optional exhaust was put on.

Results: Approx 100 miles of riding today and the gauge barely moved.
Only once did the cooling fan come on and that was upon engine cutoff after
a 50 mile run with outside temps at approx. 80 degrees. Everything seems
ok. The dealer indicated that the Triumph engines are built awfully strong
and the short distances that were ridden where the gauge was in the red
should not be a problem now or in the future. Hope he is correct. I'll
probably opt for the extended warranty.

The exhaust sounds much better than the stock. Just can't wait until I get
through the breakin period.

Thanks.
