New to the list

Hello fellow ST owners,

Glad to see there's a resource out there for Sprint ST owners. Here's my info:

I'm 38 years old, living in San Jose, CA, and I own Aesthetic Design &
Photography.

Last four vin = 1830

build date varies depending upon which part I look at so I don't think
that's a very useful statistic.

Feb 8, 1999 - Test rode a Honda VFR, and a SuperHawk. Left the Honda dealer
thinking the VFR was it. Next went to the Triumph dealer and test rode
their red demo ST for about an hour (Thank you very much Cal BMW-Triumph!).
Knew then that the VFR was in second place. Put a deposit down that day and
patiently waited for the second red one to come in. I was previously riding
a 1990 Katana 750 so the ST felt pretty much at home, but with better
handling and much more power. A history of my bike ownership can be found
at: http://home.earthlink.net/~mattknowles/motorcycles.html and yes it
needs to be updated. (you've heard of the plumber's house having leaking
pipes?)

Mar 15, 1999 - A Monday. Found out the company I was working for was going
out of business. My next phone call was to the dealer to remove my name
from the waiting list.

Mar 19, 1999 - By Friday I found out that several clients wanted to hire me
or keep me on retainer. So I went down to the dealer to put my name back on
the list. There was a red ST on the floor, already sold to the #2 guy on
the list. Arghh! So I waited some more.

April 1, 1999 - The third red one has arrived, and it's mine! Thankfully
it's not an April Fool's joke.

April 8, 1999 - After waiting for the paperwork and a storm to clear, I
finally drove it away.

Since then I've put about 4000 miles on it. Not a lot, but then I work at
home so there isn't any commute miles on it. I ordered it with the 3 bag
system and the heated grips, both are excellent to have. Like many others
I've experienced a fuel gauge failure. The replacement has also failed, and
am waiting resolution from Triumph.

Earlier this month I joined a group of Triumph owners for a track day at
Thunderhill. If the other two owners of the ST's that were there are on
this list, please drop me a line, especially the owner of the black one, I
forgot your name. I'm still working on the Quicktime VR from the trackday,
I'll let the list know when it's live.

I'm waiting for the fuel gauge to be fixed before I take it for any serious
touring, but for now it is serving its sport bike side very well. The
Daytona's were blowing by at the end of the straights, but the Sprint had a
lot more grunt coming out of a corner.
