Question

 I mistakenly took off the shifter pedal while trying to adjust it's height.
Now the allen bolt at the base of the pedal which holds it on will not
tighten and turns freely. Are the threads stripped or am I missing
something? I can't believe the pressure I exerted when tightening it could
strip the threads.
