RE: free play in rear wheel
Jim,
I think you are sliding and the stock tires make no noise at all when
sliding. When mine were worn and cold I really had to watch out in parking
lots for slipping.

Hmmm, I'll check mine. I've recently noticed an "interesting sensation"
in fairly hard cornering that feels almost like a slight rear tire slide. I
really can't believe it's actually sliding because I just really don't turn
it
that hard and I also haven't heard any suspicious noise like I'd expect
from a
spinning/sliding rear tire. The footpags aren't even scraping when it
happens.
The sensation comes and goes in a rapid oscillation, almost like it could
be
bumps in the road. I had convinced myself this weekend that I might be
bottoming out the rear suspension in turns even though opening the throttle
in
turns should be helping to bring the suspension up. Perhaps the wheel has
some
play, though. Or maybe I'm just not using enough throttle in turns! Tires
are
still stock BT57's. I don't think they're out of round - I only notice it
in
turns, but maybe I'll check that, too...
