Having trouble getting it up!

I have found it difficult to get my ST up on it's centre stand.  This is
mainly due to the injury I received the first time I tried it.  The
'lug' on the bottom of the footpeg got me a beauty on my right shin.
This was after certain instruction by the dealer, who just said, " Geez,
that's never happened to me."  Now I'm very careful every time I put it
on the centre stand...so careful that I twisted my right ankle doing
it.  I can't believe the bashing my poor right leg is copping.   I
actually found it much easier to put my BMW K1100LT on it's stand and it
weighed another 60 or 70 Kilo's!  'Twould be nice to have a handle but I
spose the rear peg does the trick..

Is there a trick to it?
