RS front end/Hello

Hi all, I just joined the list and since a personal introduction was
advised here goes: I have an Orange Sprint RS that is AWESOME. Since 1989
(except for a for about 10k miles on Suzuki Bandit 400) I rode about 90k
miles on thumpers (Kawa. KLR 650, Husqvarna TE610, Suz. DR 650 and DR 800
[when I lived was doing geological field work Spain for 6 months]). I still
love thumpers but I fell in love with Triumph triples when in 1996 I got to
ride a race-prepped '94 or '95 Speed Triple for two days in a road racing
school. It took a while, but I never forgot those two days and at last I
have an Orange Triumph Triple! I got the bike at the end of March and I
have put just uner 6k miles on it; IT RULES!

I have a couple of questions I am hoping Sprint ST or RS owners can help me
with:

The Sprint ST service manual and the Sprint ST/RS owner's manual indicates
that the headstock bearing must be lubricated every 12,000 miles. The
service manual shows how to adjust the headstock bearing but has no
information about what entails "lubricating the headstock bearing". I have
never heard of any motorcycle requiring this type of maintenance,
particularly at such short intervals. I would greatly appreciate
information or feedback regarding the following questions:

(1) Has anyone ignored this service routine without suffering dire
consequence. In other words, is it really necessary?

(2) If anyone has perfomed this maintenance themselves, what does it
entail? A brief summary of the routine will be much appreciated.

Another question for RS owners: does anyone know of a service manual or
appendix to the ST service manual for the RS? One dealer sold me the ST
manual and said that was all that was available. I know that the fork set
up is different on the two bikes and when I eventually change the fork oil
I want to know what weight fluid to use and how far from the top of the
fork it should be. From my offroad experience I am nuerotic about changing
fork and other fluids regularly.

Thanks,
Tony
