An Electrifying Question

On the Y2K ST, the accessory socket is protected by a 15A fuse (fuse #3),
which also covers the instruments and heated grips. However, the Triumph
accessory plug that inserts into the socket only has an internal 2A fuse
which severely limits what you can plug into the socket.

The other day, I tried plugging my 12V air compressor into the accessory
socket but I kept blowing the 2A fuse in the plug. Can anyone explain the
rationale to me? Is it safe to put a higher amperage fuse in the plug?
I'm sure an electrically-heated vest, for example, would draw more than 2
amps, so how does one get around this problem?

Thanks in advance for your knowledgeable responses.
