five years of triumph

James - Sorry to hear of your unhappiness with Triumph and especially the
RS. I bought my RS 4 days earlier than you did (for $500 less out the door)
and have had zero problems in 3,600 miles. I rode an '00 ST with
performance pipe and a stock RS back to back before deciding on the RS. I
could not discern any real difference in the engine performance of the two
bikes but liked the way the RS looks/handles better. I've not noticed any
problems with the rear shock and I ride twisty (and somtimes bumpy!) Blue
Ridge Mountain roads every weekend. The only dyno results I've seen were in
a recent issue of Motorcyclist and did show about 10% less power than a '99
ST. Where have you seen others? As we've discussed on this list before,
the average MPG reported in the MC article was 34 which is way off of what
we have all experienced leading me to believe that bike was not properly
tuned. When I bought my CF can, my dealer put in the new tune and then ran
an EGA in the pipe. At 5% CO at idle it leans out up top near 1.5%...runs
wonderfully. Dealer told me Triumph recommends 3% at idle but setting it so
can result in running too lean at the top.
