Ludo,
The ECU shouldn't be runnng off of dynamic memory (requiring power =
to be applied at all times). It is "flashed", that is to say it is =
electronically rewritable memory that is permanent until rewritten with =
the handheld programming module. The programming module supplies the =
signals required for on-board programming and downloads the new program =
into the ECU memory. This is a very flexible way to program ECUs, but =
the programming module is very pricey. Other ECUs use a replaceable =
one-time only programmable chip (in a socket). The advantage of rhe =
replaceble chip is that you can have several programs available if you =
can buy the chips. Motorcycles and automobiles can lose power for many =
reasons. It would be a major mistake to use memory that requires =
constant and perfectly filtered power.
Ciao,
Bob
