What you say about the factory draining the oil makes sense, but I'm
reasonably certain that my dealer filled my '99 ST with Motul 10W40
SEMI-SYNTHETIC oil and that's what I've used ever since. When I asked them
about it, the service manager said they hadn't had a problem with that in
the past. Mind you, he wasn't the one who actually did the setup on the
bike either so I was never sure if he was just speaking 'off the cuff'. My
bike, which has about 8000 kilometres on it now, doesn't smoke (at least not
that I've noticed since I don't always look behind me) and doesn't seem to
lose much oil between changes.
The questions in my mind are:
a) Does Triumph condone this practice?
b) Is my engine warranty in ANY kind of jeopardy?
It sure would be nice if someone from Triumph would clear the air.
