new development (?) on ye olde headl-lanterne syndrome

Rang JL to check status of bike just now.
It's ready to collect, but will be back to bog-standard single-headlight
performance.
This is because they have spoken to other dealers who have doctored the
headlights and found out that they have all had bikes returned with flat
batteries. All have spoken with Triumph who say (apart from being against
playing around with the headlight system!), they have changed the wiring box
and computer innards since the ST was originally produced, as a result of
which the relay overheats (when the headlights are joined together), leaving
a live wire in the ignition, which taps the battery etc. etc.
So they have produced a NEW relay (is this Triumph or the dealer, I wonder?)
which they are now trialling on demo bikes, but like all good pharmaceutical
companies, they won't be releasing it until it has been thoroughly tested on
two-wheeled animals. He reckons they might be able to approve it within the
next 3-4 weeks.
