Re: CF Hugger Install

To my great surprise and delight, my carbon hugger and Euro headlight switch
arrived today (yes, SUNDAY!!) from Jack Lilley Ltd. (many thanks to Steve!!). So
out I went to get some Torx wrenches and came up with the needed T30 and other
sizes though I still need to find a T50 and T55 (thanks to Eric for the FAQ!!!).
As per Eric's post, installation was simple, but as Eric noted, a couple of holes
in the hugger needed enlarging and that took some time as I did it by hand rather
than use a power tool (I wasn't about to mess up an expensive hugger). It looks
spiffy and doesn't look out of place nor is it too conspicuous. It's just right.
:-)

The Euro light switch was a pain since the whole front fairing needed to be
removed so I could disconnect the old and connect the new wiring harness. I had
never removed any panels before so I had to proceed slowly. Again, except for
removing the fairing, the Euro switch when right on (nota bene - don't forget
about fitting the locating pin into the hole in the handlebar otherwise you'll go
crazy). It will be nice to have the option of starting the bike with the lights
off or just use the running light (the middle "cyclops" light) or using full
headlights at will.

Whilst the nose was removed I did Rick's famous "warning light jewel swap" whereby
I swapped the nice bright yellow jewel used for the low fuel light for the
not-so-bright green turn signal jewel. Much better to have the bright light for
the signals since the Spring ST, sadly, does not have self cancelling turn signals
(come on Triumph, even my '82 Yamaha had self-cancelling signals). Again, it's
very easy to do once the fairing is off.

And since I was already into wrenching for the day, I installed the
Throttlemeister, too. It was pretty simple though it took some patience to cut
the friction sleeve slots.

And now it's time for a quick ride (it's too cold for a long ride, but at least
it's a nice, sunny day).

GG
