There are two API engine oil standards. One is for
'S'park-ignition engines (gasoline) and 'C'ompression-ignition
engines (diesel). The same oil, if it has enough detergents added
to it (diesels use dirty fuel prone to forming nasty soot), can
meet both standards. Since your engine can't be too clean, I'd go
for the one that carries 'S' and 'C' certifications. It's probably
the more expensive of the pair, right?
