Jong,
In the past I have used Evostick impact adhesive to fix CF tank
shields to my Bandit and TL1000S. Simply apply a thin coat to both the
shield and tank, wait for it to go tacky and press the parts together.
20K+ Miles on each bike and the shields never moved. The rubbery film
of the adhesive also prevents grit from working its way down behind
the shield and damaging the paint.
BTW, My current shield was attached with the supplied pads and it
hasn't budged.
You could always attach the shield directly to your jeans.

Anyone have a recommendation for how to attach this tank codpiece more
solidly?
