fuel capacity

A while back there were some questions about usable fuel capacity. Last
weekend I did some, er, research on this question with my '99 ST. At just
over 228 miles it began stumbling, but kept going long enough (about 2/10 of
a mile) for me to get off the freeway. It took 5.294 US gallons to fill up
(this total includes an estimate for the fuel consumed going from the
roadside with 1 gal in, to where I filled up). I.e. I must have used every
drop in the 5.2 US gal tank, which speaks well for the tank design. Perhaps
an advantage of the wrap-around frame, with no central spine down the middle
of the tank, causing nooks and crannies? BTW I was expecting 250 miles+,
forgetting that a good bit of the tankful that ran out had been consumed in
2nd and 3rd gear on such San Diego back-county venues as Lyons Valley Road,
Honey Springs Road-need I go on?
