I did install my rack myself.  I believe that the person who wrote the
instructions fully understood what was being written.  The problem is the
instructions do not appear to have been tested by someone else.
I ended up getting two longer bolts from my dealer.  I felt that the two
long bolts supplied were not long enough.  I did complete the task and it
works just fine.  Take your time and walk away for a few minutes if you get
frustrated.
