Seat cowl

Hi.

Next weekend I'll try to modify my seat cowl to use it with the rack.
 From Eric's description on the website I understand that I'll have to cut 
the cowl OVER the two rear tabs on the inside. Is that right?
Will the cowl stay firmly in place without the tabs? Do you have any 
special recommendation or suggestion? TIA.
