It's a kind of gasket compound that forms a pliable latex film after
it cures. Some grades can be used without a gasket to form a very
tight, low-pressure seal. Sometimes known as form-a-gasket.

Ah - should be no problem then. A fresh gasket on even moderately well
prepared surface [1] with plenty of gasket sealing compound should be
able to handle a few atmospheres of pressure once the sealant cures.
[1] And it sounds like you did a better job than that.
