Chain Cleaning

I went to oil my chain last night, and I noticed a lot of oily dirt buildup.
I normally oil my chain with 80 weight gear oil which seams to collect a lot
of dirt.  What products can I use to clean the chain before my next oiling?

I've only been riding for a year now and still learning how to maintain my
bike.  I just glad that for such a newbie, I purchased such an awesome and
forgiving bike.

If any of you are in the Atlanta, GA area, I would love to hook up.
