RE: Chain life?

I tried the ignore and clean with WD40 when really guilty approach to chain
maintenance and got 18,000 miles out of my original. Replaced that with an
EK which self destructed within 1,000 miles by spitting out X rings at an
alarming rate (I maintained that one pretty religiously by the way). I now
am on a Regina which has about 11,000 on it and looks set to equal the
original with no problems. I started out by using 90W gear oil but quickly
fell back into my old habits of ignoring it except when it gets looking
nasty. Since it is gold in color I guess it gets a going over with something
like WD40 once every 2,000 or so, and sometimes (seldom) I even give it a
shot of chain lube after the cleaning. I would certainly not recommend my
very poor maintenance habits, but if you can wear a chain out faster than
that.......how? One thing I am very fussy about is slack, 1.2 to 1.4 inches
at the tight spot, no more, no less. I also keep wheelies to a minimum and
abuse the throttle only when I go to Virginia, West Virginia,......
