Re: Boohm (long, unhappy)

Really sorry to hear about everything that went wrong, and I'm glad it
sounds like you're pretty much ok. I can really relate to your exasperation
with your fellow drivers. Since we haven't had rain here in awhile, I can
only imagine how slick the roads were, and having to dodge everyone else
sure doesn't help your traction or confidence.

Last weekend was the first time I had my wife with me on the bike for an
extended trip. We went to Reno and encountered much of the same idiocy on
the roads that you experienced, but then I had drive pavement to my
advantage. I had close calls with 4 other drivers and when we finally got
to Reno my wife asked me if this was just a normal ride. I think she was
pretty worried for my safety at that point. We had two people try to move
into our lane without even looking. They were obvious merging situations so
I was paying a lot of attention to the drivers and saw that neither looked
at the mirror or did a head check. I was in the left part of the lane and
they were merging from the right so it gave me time to move ahead while
laying on the horn. (I still defend that as the better lane position!)
Later we were passed by a guy in an old Lincoln who was occupied with his
radio or something else and just drifted right into our lane as he went by.
Finally we were coming to a stop a signal on a surface street and a guy
roared by us making a lane change missing the right side of the bike and my
wife's knee by about two feet.

You are making me feel better that I'm stuck at home nursing a bad back
instead of going to the races like I had planned. My wife was supposed to
spend the weekend with me at Sears Point in return for taking her to the
horse show in Reno last weekend. Instead I'm laying on the floor with ice
and drugs.

On my doctors advice, I ordered a set of Gen-Mar risers, which I'll install
next weekend. My doctor owns a couple of BMW's and also scuba dives, so
he's been great with advice instead of repeating the line, "Does it hurt
when you do that?", "Well, then stop doing that!"

Any idea when the races are rescheduled for?
