Race School

Howdy, riders. I signed up for a race school course down in Calgary, Alberta and got to partake this past Saturday. It was cold (13-15 deg C). What a blast, though! The lights, speedo and gauges (except the temperature & oil) were all taped up. No idea how fast I was taking some of the corners although I'd say not fast enough since I never once touched down on the foot peg (darn!) although much faster than I have ever taken a corner on the street. I hit the track with a brand new set of D-207's. They only had about 20 km on them when I arrived at the track only to find the brand new rear had a big fricking screw right through it. So, back to the shop for another new tire. The puncture is in the centre of the tread right in the meat of the tire. I will plug and patch the tire and use it later this summer when the other one is worn out. I consulted with racers at the track and the agreement was that I probably wouldn't have a problem using that tire on the street. One warm up lap around the track and it was full blast leaning over and crapping my pants waiting for the new rubber to let loose. It didn't. Not even a little bit. Looking at the tire I see I was right over with about 1/8" or less of untouched rubber on the rear. That's over, I'd say. Those tires sure "marble" up, too. Lots of loose rubber on the tire surface from the hard scrubbing. I kept the rpm's pretty high (6-10K). Yes, I did say 10,000. I don't like the feeling of "lugging" the motor around corners. Also, one more note...my rev limiter doesn't cut in until 10,500 rpm. So, either the tach is not so accurate (most likely) or the rev limiter is set high (doubtful). If anyone ever gets the opportunity to go to a race school, take it. You will learn some things about you and your bike.

And that's all I have to say about that.
