O. K. So I'm replying to my own post.  I just went and took the mirror
off & put it back on.  It needed tightening anyway ;-).  There's a hole
through the red plastic and evidently a threaded hole into the rest of
the cockpit (no nut that goes on the back of the bolts).  The whole
process of taking the mirror on and off (once the correct tool was found
on our cluttered work table), was about 3 minutes.  Make sure your new
mirror came with the rubber spacer that goes between the fairing and the
mirror!
