getting rid of the petrol smell

Here's a tip for Ian and all those that get gasoline spilled on their
clothes.  After washing the affected clothes hang them out to dry in bright
sunlight (not sure if you get much of that in the UK!;)

The ultraviolet rays of the sun help speedup the breakdown of volatile
organic compounds in gasoline such as benzene, ethylbenzene, xylenes etc.
etc.

In any event, it may take a bit of time to get rid of all the smell,
especially it your clothes were soaked with it.
