Seems pretty quick to me - I have 11k on mine and will only be replacing 
them so I don't get caught needing them on my road trip. If you suspect 
above average wear, you can check the system by taking a quick spin on the 
bike, being sure to keep your foot off the brake. Then check the heat of 
the caliper - if it is hot, your pads are dragging.
