It's generally accepted from the point of chain wear as more
desirable to change the rear sprocket (it's also easier to do);
however it may require lengthening the chain. Going down on the
front sprocket
will allow use of the same or slightly shortened chain. There are
combinations which will result in a chain length close enough to
stock it can be adjusted out. Many good (and some mediocre)
sprockets are available. Rule of thumb: 'You get what you pay for!'.
