Noisy Fuel Pressure Regulator

How many folks have this problem and how many have solved it with a new fuel
pressure regulator? Are there any cases of a new fuel pressure regulator NOT
solving the problem? (You can email me privately if you don't want to take
up the list's bandwidth and I'll post the results if any folks are
interested.)

I need some feedback to try and convince my dealer that the noise (actually
quite loud) is not "normal" and should be covered under warranty. (They've
been great in all other ways.)

My details:

When cold, my new 2001 BRG ST (Yeaaaaa!) howls for about 6 seconds after
turning the key but then fades out . . . until I hit the starter at which
point it starts howling again and does not stop until I ride a few miles,
stop, turn her off, wait a few seconds, and then start her up again. Less
than ideal.

My dealer (BMW, Ducati, & Triumph of Marin, CA--GREAT guys, BTW) says that
there is no bulletin from Triumph about the problem so they have no solution
and that it is quite common. I was at the Bay Area Bike Show last weekend
and asked the Triumph folks about it and they said to just rotate the unit a
couple of degrees and it would stop buzzing completely. I told my dealer's
service manager what they said and he laughed, saying that they've tried
that and many other solutions with no luck.

FYI, my bike's fuel gauge and warning light didn't work (reading empty and
always lit, respectively), but at the 500 mile check-up it got fixed and
seems to work fine.

Any feedback would be appreciated--thanks for being such a great resource!
